Congratulations to Pamela Braun for winning our first book giveaway. The judges liked how she has used her cooking skills, like Julia, to help keep her marriage a strong and happy one. They also appreciated a man who followed his stomach...err... heart!

I remember reading (probably in Julie & Julia) a paragraph about Julia Child preparing to cook a couple of pigeons that were resting on a nearby table.

Having read online about how people in America used to eat pigeon as a staple food and seeing on YouTube how to prepare pigeon, I took the plunge. I captured three (with my bare hands), killed, soaked, de-feathered, gutted and decapitated them. Then I cooked them. They were delicious! And I owe it to Julia Child, who makes it clear that one must be courageous to eat well.

I have been married to my husband for 10 years and it's all because I can cook. Shortly after we met, I cooked him a meal of ricotta stuffed pasta shells with a rich meat sauce. He was speechless. I just laughed because it was so simple. He told me that his first wife couldn't cook at all and he did all of the cooking (boxed mac and cheese). After that meal, he never went out with anyone but me. And when I moved across the country, he followed me and married me.

Creating a recipe that started with the instructions, "Bone a whole chicken without cutting the skin" was a Julia moment for me. A friend and I worked for two days to create a dinner party that featured this boned chicken filled with chicken mousse, pistachios, ham, etc. topped with hollandaise from Julia and Friends. It was a great success but the response from one of my guests was, "Well! I'l never be able to invite you to dinner after this." She never did.......

Sorry, we goofed and put the wrong expiration date for this contest. We meant to close the entries on 8/16 but put the wrong date.

Well in the style of Julia Child, we brush off our mistake and fix it the best we can by extending this to midnight 8/23. Sorry for our one entry who rushed it in, during the erroneous short contest time we mistakenly first posted.

Happy Birthday Julia and please enter your Julia moment!

My fascination with Julia Child started back in the 60's. Because of her, I went on to cook professionally and often found myself falling back on the basic things I learned from her when I was just a youngster. Throughout my cooking career, my best work has always been (and to this day still is) "Julia inspired".
